Learning without unnecessary barriers

Accessibility Statement

KidsFirstKnowledge aims to make its public learning experience understandable and operable for children, caregivers and educators with different needs, devices and ways of interacting.

Our approach

We work toward the practical requirements of WCAG 2.2 Level AA where technically feasible. Accessibility is treated as continuing maintenance, not as a one-time badge or an absolute guarantee across every browser, device voice and assistive technology.

Features in the current portal

  • Semantic headings, landmarks and descriptive page titles.
  • A skip link and visible keyboard focus indicators.
  • Keyboard-operable navigation, filters, lesson links and audio controls.
  • Readable contrast, responsive reflow and text that can be enlarged.
  • Large touch targets for primary controls.
  • Alternative text for meaningful images and hidden treatment for decorative marks.
  • Language and text-direction information, including right-to-left interface pathways.
  • Reduced-motion support when the device requests it.
  • Audio that starts only after an adult activates it, with the full spoken text also visible on the page.

Known limits

Device speech voices and pronunciation differ by operating system. Some language lesson routes currently present the authoritative English lesson while a reviewed local-language edition is prepared, and each such page says so. Not every lesson has a unique illustration; meaning remains available in text.

Using the portal with a child

A caring adult should adapt the page to the child's abilities, communication style, attention and comfort. Important learning should not depend on speed, fine motor precision, sound alone or a child operating the device independently.

Report an accessibility problem

If a page, control or document creates a barrier, please identify the exact URL, device or assistive technology, and what you expected to happen. KidsFirstKnowledge avoids collecting contact data through its child-facing pages; use the established publisher channel available through The Bach Foundation.
