What your child will discover
Help the child respond safely when a small amount of water or ordinary food spills. Teach that not every spill is safe and that chemicals, medicine, bodily fluids, broken containers, hot liquids, oils, and unknown substances are adult-only.

The spoken lesson
"A spill happens when liquid or food falls where it does not belong. Stop and put down the cup or object. Tell your caregiver and wait while the caregiver checks. A small amount of cool water or ordinary food may be safe to help wipe. Hot liquid, broken glass, medicine, chemicals, body waste, oil, or an unknown substance is for adults only. Water on a floor can be slippery, so keep people away until it is dry. Spills are accidents, not bad behaviour. Stop, tell, wait, and wipe only safe spills." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use small ordinary spills and a clear safety distinction. Avoid chemical-cleaning games, shame, cleanup timers, broken-glass interaction, or slip-and-fall animation.

Make it real
Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
