What your child will discover

Help the child understand that water can be enjoyable but can also cover the nose and mouth and prevent breathing. Teach the child never to approach, enter, or return to water without a designated supervising adult.

The spoken lesson

"Water can be fun, but it can also cover the nose and mouth and make breathing impossible. Stop before you reach a bath, pool, river, lake, sea, bucket, or other water. Wait for your caregiver. Enter only when a capable adult says it is safe and stays close enough to help immediately. Swimming lessons and floating toys do not replace adult supervision. Near boats or natural water, wear the correct life jacket when required. If someone is in trouble, do not jump in. Call an adult and point. Stop, wait, caregiver close." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Keep the caregiver visibly attentive in every water scene. Do not show a phone, book, alcohol, or divided attention. Avoid game-like swimming challenges.

Make it real

Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
