What your child will discover

Help the child understand that advertising is a sponsored persuasive message intended to influence awareness, attitudes, behaviour, data sharing, or purchasing. Persuasion also appears outside advertising.

The spoken lesson

"Advertising is sponsored persuasion. An advertisement tries to influence what people notice, believe, choose, share, or buy. Ads may use attractive pictures, music, repetition, humour, fear, excitement, popularity, scarcity, rewards, or countdowns. Commercial messages may also look like games, reviews, lessons, or ordinary posts. Ask who made the message, who paid, what action they want, what evidence is shown, and what is missing. A pleasant feeling or famous person is not proof. Never press purchase, registration, subscription, download, or data-sharing buttons alone. Advertising is paid persuasion, so identify the sponsor, inspect the claim, and ask before acting." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: The lesson must remain entirely non-commercial. Use fictional products and explicit sponsor labels. Avoid real ads, product placement, reward loops, countdowns, shopping buttons, or targeted content.

Make it real

Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
