Help the child understand that a country is a political and geographic territory with people and governing institutions, while cities, towns, villages, and other settlements are places where people live and organise local life.
"A country is a geographic and political territory with people, governing institutions, laws, and public systems. Countries may contain regions, states, provinces, districts, cities, towns, villages, and other areas. A city is usually a concentrated settlement with many people and services. A town is often smaller, and a village is often smaller still, but these names and legal meanings vary greatly between countries. A capital is a place where a national or regional government is based, and it is not always the largest city. Countries organise territory, and settlements organise places where people live." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use fictional places and explain classification variability. Avoid current disputed maps, nationalism, rural-versus-urban ranking, flags as the main teaching method, or location collection.
