Explore animals that live in freshwater or saltwater and learn that aquatic animals need suitable water habitats.
Help the child recognise fish and several other aquatic-animal groups. Teach that fish usually breathe through gills and move with fins, while many sea animals are not fish and may breathe, move, or reproduce differently.
"Fish are animals that live in water. Most fish breathe through gills and use fins to move and balance. Fish live in rivers, lakes, ponds, reefs, and oceans. Not every sea animal is a fish. Whales and dolphins are mammals that breathe air. Sea turtles are reptiles. Octopuses, crabs, sea stars, and jellyfish belong to other animal groups. Aquatic animals need the right water, food, temperature, oxygen, and habitat. Some can sting, bite, pinch, or cut. Stay with your caregiver near water and observe without touching. Water animals belong in the right habitat, and we observe safely." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use scientifically accurate animal grouping without overwhelming the child. Avoid monster-like sharks, hunting scenes, touching tanks, collecting wildlife, or underwater survival games.
Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
