The spoken lesson

"Empathy means noticing another person's experience and trying to understand it. A face or action gives clues, but we can misunderstand, so we ask. 'Are you okay?' 'Do you want help?' 'Would you like company or space?' Kindness is a respectful action. It may mean listening, helping, making room, lowering a loud sound, protecting someone, or getting an adult. Kindness does not require forced sharing, hugging, friendship, or accepting harmful behaviour. You can also be kind to yourself by resting, asking for help, and trying again. Notice, ask, listen, and choose a respectful action." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use respectful, non-pitying situations and multiple communication methods. Avoid forced affection, compulsory sharing, mind-reading quizzes, saviour imagery, or emotional-performance scoring.

Make it real

Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
