What your child will discover

Help the child identify teeth and gums and understand that teeth are hard structures inside the mouth. Front teeth help bite suitable foods, while back teeth help crush and chew. Baby teeth also support speech, smiling, jaw development, and space for later permanent teeth.

The spoken lesson

"Teeth are hard parts inside the mouth. Teeth grow through the gums. The front teeth help bite suitable food into smaller pieces. The back teeth help crush and chew. Teeth also help with some speech sounds and support the shape of the mouth. Baby teeth are important even though later they will be replaced by permanent teeth. Teeth are for eating, not biting people or opening objects. Caregiver, smile with the child in a safe mirror and look at the visible teeth. Teeth help us bite, chew, speak, and smile, and they need gentle care." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use realistic, healthy toddler mouths without beauty editing. Avoid tooth-count comparisons, frightening decay imagery, dental drills, medical claims, teething-product promotion, or tests requiring the child to identify tooth types.

Make it real

Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
