"Up means toward a higher place. Down means toward a lower place. Watch the caregiver's hands go up. Up. Now the hands come down. Down. A caregiver can lift a safe ball up and lower it down. A bird may fly high above the ground. Grass grows down near the ground. Caregiver, raise your own hands slowly. Up. Now lower them. Down. We never need to toss or lift a baby high to learn these words. Up and down tell us which direction something moves." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use clear arrows with text so meaning does not depend on color. Keep movement slow and predictable. No rapid bouncing, shaking, or simulated falling.
