What your child will discover

Help the child notice that the body can perform many actions, including looking, listening, reaching, holding, rolling, sitting, crawling, standing, stepping, walking, dancing, communicating, and resting. Teach that rest is also something the body needs.

The spoken lesson

"Your body can do many things. You can look, listen, reach, hold, roll, sit, and move across the floor. When your body is ready, you may stand, step, or walk. You may dance, sway, point, sign, make sounds, or speak. Some children move by themselves. Some use support or mobility equipment. Every body learns and moves in its own way. The body also needs to stop and rest. Caregiver, choose one comfortable action and do it together. Your body can move, communicate, learn, and rest." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Represent different abilities respectfully. Do not use milestone rankings, race formats, "normal versus abnormal" language, body comparisons, movement scoring, or forced participation.

Make it real

Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
