"The heart is a strong muscular pump inside the chest. It has four chambers and valves that help blood move in the correct direction. Blood returning from the body enters the right side of the heart. The heart pumps it to the lungs, where it receives oxygen and releases carbon dioxide. The blood returns to the left side, and the heart pumps it through vessels to the body. Each contraction creates a heartbeat. The pulse often becomes faster during active movement and slower during rest. The heart pumps blood to the lungs and around the body."
