Understand that a community is a network of people, relationships, places, services, shared interests, responsibilities, and systems of belonging.

Help the child understand that a community is formed through relationships, shared place, identity, interest, culture, responsibility, or activity. Communities include people, services, spaces, rules, cooperation, and participation.
"A community is a network of people, relationships, places, services, activities, and shared responsibilities. A neighbourhood can be a community. A school, language group, cultural group, faith group, disability community, sports group, or shared-interest group can also be a community. One person may belong to many communities. Belonging means being recognised, supported, included, and able to participate. Communities use schools, clinics, libraries, parks, transport, markets, utilities, rules, and shared spaces. Communities may disagree, so fair processes and protection matter. A community member is not automatically a trusted adult. A community grows through belonging, participation, care, shared systems, and respect." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use varied communities, housing, cultures, languages, abilities, and services. Avoid idealised harmony, forced assimilation, nationalism, religious ranking, location collection, or treating participation as adult responsibility.
Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
