"Biodiversity means the variety of life. Genetic diversity describes differences within a species. Species diversity includes the number and relative abundance of species. Ecosystem diversity includes forests, wetlands, grasslands, deserts, reefs, rivers, soils, and other systems. Functional diversity describes different ecological roles and traits. Biodiversity supports food webs, pollination, soil, water, nutrient cycling, cultural life, and resilience. It can be reduced by habitat loss, pollution, overharvesting, invasive species, disease, and climate change. Conservation protects and restores life and habitat. Biodiversity is the variety of life, its differences, its habitats, and its ecological roles." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Represent microbes, fungi, plants, invertebrates, and ecosystems—not only large mammals. Avoid species collection, simplistic "more is always better," invasive-species fear, or cultural knowledge without context.
