"Blood is a living tissue that moves through blood vessels. Plasma is the liquid part and carries cells, nutrients, hormones, salts, proteins, and waste. Red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to the body. White blood cells help the immune system respond to infection. Platelets and clotting proteins help reduce bleeding when a vessel is damaged. Arteries, veins, and tiny capillaries carry blood around the body. Marrow inside certain bones makes new blood cells. Human blood is always a shade of red, not blue.
