What your child will discover

Help the child understand that first aid is the immediate help given when someone is suddenly hurt or becomes seriously unwell. First aid may protect the person, prevent further harm, and provide support until professional care arrives or the person improves.

The spoken lesson

"First aid is the first safe help given when someone is hurt or suddenly becomes very unwell. First aid can protect the person, prevent more harm, provide comfort, and bring professional help. A young child does not need to perform medical treatment. Stop and stay away from danger. Find a trusted adult and say, 'Someone is hurt. Please come now.' Show the adult what happened. Do not touch blood, give medicine, or move a seriously injured person by yourself. Trained adults check the person and decide what care is needed. Stop, get an adult, explain what happened, and let trained people help." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use calm step cards, large buttons, realistic but non-graphic situations, and a clearly separated caregiver section. Do not include timed emergency games, points, frightening alarms, medical simulations, or child-performed procedures.

Make it real

Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
