Experience respectful, caring touch and begin learning that rough, painful, frightening, or secretive touch is not acceptable.
Help the baby associate safe care with gentle, appropriate, non-secretive touch from a trusted caregiver. Teach caregivers to announce care, observe the baby’s cues, respect discomfort when possible, and distinguish caring touch from rough, painful, frightening, sexualized, coercive, or secretive behavior.
"Gentle touch is slow, careful, and kind. A trusted caregiver may hold you safely, wash you, change your diaper, comfort you, or help a health professional care for your body. The caregiver can tell you what is happening before touching or lifting you. Your face and body may show whether you feel calm or uncomfortable. Rough, painful, frightening, or secret touch is not safe. No one should ask a child to hide touching. Caregivers listen, watch, protect, and use only appropriate touch. Gentle care respects and protects your body." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use calm positive imagery. Do not include explicit abuse scenarios, fear-based animation, stranger stereotypes, guilt, shame, or graphic safeguarding content. Include a caregiver-only safeguarding note separated clearly from the baby-facing lesson.
Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
