What your child will discover

Help the baby recognize water as a liquid used throughout daily life. Water can be used for drinking when age-appropriate, washing, bathing, cooking, cleaning, and helping plants grow. Younger infants generally receive their needed fluid through human milk or infant formula unless a qualified health professional advises otherwise.

The spoken lesson

"Water is a liquid that flows. It can fill a cup and take the shape of the cup. People use water for drinking, washing, bathing, cooking, and cleaning. Plants also need water. Very young babies usually receive the fluid they need from human milk or infant formula. When an older baby is ready, a caregiver may offer safe drinking water according to health guidance. Not every kind of water is safe to drink. A caregiver chooses safe water and stays close whenever water is nearby. Water flows, pours, washes, and helps living things." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Do not create a drinking challenge, hydration score, or water-consumption tracker. Do not encourage a newborn to drink water. Use calm, realistic flowing-water animation and a master mute button.

Make it real

Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
