What your child will discover

Help the child understand that every body has public and private areas. Private parts include the genital area, such as the penis or vulva, the buttocks, and other areas normally covered by underwear, a diaper, or suitable clothing. The mouth is also personal. Teach accurate body-part names without shame. Explain that trusted caregivers may provide necessary hygiene or health care and that health professionals may examine the body for a legitimate medical reason with the caregiver informed and present whenever appropriate.

The spoken lesson

"Every part of your body belongs to you. Some body parts are private. Private parts include the areas normally covered by a diaper, underwear, or clothing. Families can use correct words such as penis, vulva, and buttocks. Your mouth is personal too. A trusted caregiver may help wash or care for private parts when needed. A health professional may check your body for a real health reason. Care should be explained, gentle, and never secret. If any touch feels frightening, confusing, painful, or secret, say stop when you can and tell a trusted caregiver. You will not be in trouble for telling." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use fully clothed, respectful imagery and simple body outlines. Do not use explicit anatomy, graphic abuse scenarios, red-flashing danger screens, fear-based music, compliance scores, or tests asking the child to identify an abuser. Include caregiver-only safeguarding guidance separately from the child-facing content.

Make it real

Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
