Learn not to touch firearms, ammunition, fireworks, explosives, weapons, suspicious objects, or unknown dangerous tools and to tell a trusted adult immediately.
Help the child understand that a firearm, ammunition, knife used as a weapon, firework, explosive item, bow, projectile device, or suspicious unknown object can cause severe injury or death. Teach one universal response: stop, do not touch, move away, and tell a trusted adult.
"A firearm, ammunition, firework, weapon, or suspicious object can cause severe injury. It is never a toy. Never assume that something is empty, unloaded, inactive, or safe because it looks colourful. If you see a weapon or unknown dangerous object, stop. Do not touch, pick up, kick, open, or move it. Move away and tell a trusted adult immediately. Adults are responsible for locking dangerous objects so children cannot reach them. You do not need to investigate. Stop, do not touch, move away, tell an adult." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use silhouettes, locked storage, and avoidance behaviour rather than detailed weapon imagery. Never create an interactive identification or handling game.
Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
