What your child will discover

Help the child understand that sleep is an active biological process. During sleep, the brain and body organise memories, regulate many systems, repair tissues, support immunity, and prepare for the next waking period.

The spoken lesson

"Sleep is an active time for the brain and body. The brain moves through repeating sleep stages. Sleep helps organise some memories and skills learned during the day. It supports attention, emotional regulation, immune function, tissue repair, growth, and energy for waking activities. Preschool children usually need many hours of sleep across the day and night, but individual needs differ. A calm routine, suitable environment, active daytime play, and reduced stimulation before bed can help. Tell your caregiver when you are tired, uncomfortable, scared, or unable to sleep. Sleep helps the brain organise learning and helps the body recover and grow." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use slow transitions and dim but readable visuals. Avoid sleep promises, crying timers, sleep scores, monitoring features, product promotion, or implying that a child can control all sleep difficulties.

Make it real

Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
