"Cooking moves heat into food and can change what the food is like. A hard vegetable may become soft. Dry rice absorbs water and becomes tender. Egg proteins become firm. Dough can rise and become bread. Water may evaporate into steam, fats may melt, and food surfaces may brown. Colour, smell, flavour, moisture, and texture can all change. Different cooking methods create different results. Some foods need thorough cooking for safety. The caregiver controls the stove, oven, knives, steam, and hot food. Cooking changes food through heat, water, time, and movement." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use honest before-and-after food changes. Avoid child-controlled cooking, heat interaction, raw-food tasting, exaggerated steam, or food-brand promotion.
