What your child will discover

Help the child recognise infancy, childhood, adulthood, and older adulthood as broad stages in a human life. Teach that age does not determine a person’s worth and that people of the same age can have very different bodies and abilities.

The spoken lesson

"People move through different stages of life. A baby needs a great deal of care and gradually learns to move and communicate. A child continues growing, playing, learning, and gaining skills. An adult has reached physical maturity and has responsibilities, including protecting children. An older person has lived through more years and experiences. Older people may work, learn, create, care for others, and remain active. People of the same age can have different abilities and needs. Bodies change gradually with time. People change with age, and every age deserves respect." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Represent varied ages, abilities, cultures, and family roles. Avoid age progression that changes only hair colour, ageism, beauty ranking, or assumptions about frailty.

Make it real

Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
