"A language is a shared system for communicating meaning. Spoken languages organise sounds. Sign languages organise handshapes, movement, location, facial expression, and body grammar. Written languages use scripts to represent language. Languages contain words or signs and patterns that help people understand relationships between ideas. Dialects and accents are systematic varieties, not signs of lesser intelligence. A person may use one language or many, and languages naturally change and borrow from one another. Translation and interpreting help communication between languages. Languages are shared systems that communities use to create and communicate meaning." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Represent spoken, signed, written, Indigenous, minority, and multilingual communication respectfully. Avoid flag-only language identification, accent caricature, language rankings, speech scoring, or external translation.
