Lesson 049 of 300
Discover how simple eating utensils help move food safely from a plate or bowl to the mouth.
Help the child understand that a spoon scoops or carries soft food and a child-appropriate fork can pick up suitable food. Teach safe utensil handling, slow eating, and seated use.
"A spoon and fork are tools used during eating. A spoon has a small bowl-shaped end that can scoop and carry soft food. A child-appropriate fork has rounded points that can help pick up suitable soft pieces. The child sits while using utensils. The caregiver offers a small amount of food and helps when needed. Utensils move slowly from the plate or bowl to the mouth. We do not run, wave, or play with them. Spoon scoops. Fork picks up. Small bite, slow movement, and careful eating." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use realistic utensils and food. Avoid perfect-performance expectations, eating races, reward systems, or shame about spills. Use large demonstration controls.
Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
