Lesson 126 of 300
Learn that kitchens are used to store, wash, prepare, cook, and serve food and contain both useful and dangerous equipment.
Help the child understand the main purposes and activity zones of a kitchen: food storage, washing, preparation, cooking, serving, eating, and cleaning.
"A kitchen is a place where food is stored, washed, prepared, cooked, served, and cleaned up. Food may be kept in a refrigerator, cupboard, or pantry. The sink provides water for washing. A preparation surface gives the caregiver room to work. The stove and oven use strong heat and are adult-only. Knives, hot pans, glass, appliances, raw animal foods, and cleaning products also stay under adult control. A toddler may help with a simple cool task in a safe area. The kitchen makes food, and the caregiver controls danger." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use a clearly separated child-safe participation area. Do not create simulated cooking with heat, knife games, appliance activation, food-brand advertising, or kitchen-speed challenges.
Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
