What your child will discover

Help the child identify the ankles, feet, and toes. Explain that the ankle connects the lower leg to the foot, the feet support the body against the ground, and toes help with balance and movement.

The spoken lesson

"Your ankle is where your lower leg meets your foot. Your foot reaches from the heel to the toes. Your toes are at the front of each foot. Ankles can move gently. Toes can wiggle. Feet press against the floor and help support the body. Toes and feet also help with balance and stepping. Caregiver, point to the ankle, foot, heel, and toes. Let the child move naturally. We protect feet from sharp, hot, cold, rough, and slippery surfaces. Ankles connect. Feet support. Toes help balance." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use realistic foot anatomy without medical close-ups. Avoid balance scoring, walking comparisons, forced stretches, tickling, or pressure to count toes correctly.

Make it real

Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
