Understand that an activity-appropriate, correctly fitted helmet helps reduce head injury during falls or crashes.
Help the child understand that a helmet provides a protective outer layer for the head during activities such as bicycle, balance-bike, or scooter riding. Teach that the correct helmet must match the activity and fit properly.
"A helmet helps protect your head during a fall or crash. Your caregiver chooses a helmet made for the activity and checks that it fits. The helmet sits level and low enough on the forehead. The straps lie correctly, and the chin buckle closes securely. A helmet should feel snug but comfortable. It cannot prevent every injury, so you also ride slowly, stay in a safe area, and remain with your caregiver. Remove the helmet before climbing playground equipment. Right helmet, right fit, before every ride." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use a generic safety-certified helmet design. Do not teach the child to perform stunts or crash-test the helmet. Avoid points, speed challenges, and brand marketing.
