What your child will discover
Help the child understand that medicine is used only for a specific person, reason, amount, and time selected by a responsible adult or health professional. Household and outdoor chemicals may burn, poison, irritate, or otherwise injure the body.

The spoken lesson
"Medicine can help a particular person when a responsible adult gives the correct medicine and amount. The wrong medicine or amount can cause harm. Cleaners, detergent packets, fuel, pesticides, cosmetics, alcohol, nicotine liquids, and unknown substances are chemicals that may poison, burn, or irritate the body. They may look colourful, but they are not food or drinks. Do not taste, open, pour, spray, or smell them closely. Stop, move away, and tell a caregiver. Medicine and chemicals: adult gives, adult stores." DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Use locked storage and generic containers without attractive commercial designs. Avoid animated talking medicine, sweet-like presentation, poison drama, or handling games.

Make it real
Pause, point, name what you notice, and connect the idea to something familiar in your child's day. Repetition, a calm voice, shared attention and dependable care matter more than finishing quickly.
